Only Now

Only Now 1200x800 Launched in 2012 by Tansu Yachts as part of the Thunderbolt class, the 34.6 metre motor yacht Only Now, winner of a World Superyacht Award in 2013, is a custom-built expedition style yacht that is sure to turn heads wherever she sails – and that she does.

Only Now has a wooden hull and superstructure and can move at up to 21 knots to get you to your next destination in both speed and style. Her naval architecture is the work of Diana Yacht Design, while both the interior and exterior are the creation of the in-house Tansu team.

Led by designer Riza Tansu, the Turkish boat builder has made an impressive name for itself since it launched its first explorer yacht back in 1998. Inspired by Northwest Fishing Boats, the 23.6 metre Troy Explorer was the beginning of a rather revolutionary story. In 2005, Tansu launched a 21 metre prototype called CV70.

Designers lived on board for three seasons in order to test the open spaces and perfect the new concept that was in planned for launch in 2007. As history shows, this applied experiment was a huge success, and when Only Now hit the water in 2012, she was the first of her kind – a yacht consistent with the Tansu story but designed entirely to satisfy the desires and needs of her owner.

Instantly recognisable all over the world for their Spartan look and extremely modern and sophisticated lines, Tansu Yachts have won award after award for their groundbreaking designs. Most recently, in 2018, they took home Boat International’s Design and Innovation Award.

Focusing on creating vessels with exceptional outdoor spaces and using the highest standard materials, Tansu pleases an impressive range of tastes. Some are stunned by the efficiency of her performance and modern lines; others are seduced by the revolutionary layout which creates seemingly endless deck space and an enviable master suite. Whatever your weakness, Tansu seems to have dialed right in.

Only Now 1200x800 2

Only Now has a new ‘can do’ owner since July 2019, who was immediately drawn to the sumptuous and relaxing outdoor spaces offer by her outdoor living design. After a busy summer of private use, the owner decided to do a full refit at the home shipyard to renovate the top deck to incorporate shaded formal dinning and a sun deck bar. This coupled with fresh paint and a domestic appliances and engineering overhaul will have her ready for charter activities in the East Med and the Bahamas this coming winter.

Only Now is a star of the fleet, in perfect harmony with the company’s “less is more” ethos. Designed with outdoor living in mind, both the main and upper decks are vast and inviting. Whether enjoying an alfresco lunch or perfecting your tan, the atmosphere is calming and guests claim to feel close to the water. Thanks to her explorer-styled exterior, even the walkways feel open and airy, tempting guests to take full advantage of their time at sea. An elliptical outdoor dining table on the main deck seats eight, accentuated by stylish Vitra armchairs, while above, guests can lounge on sun beds or enjoy a cocktail in complete privacy.

The garage is well stocked with the most popular water toys on the market. There are jet skis, Seabobs, paddle boards, and snorkel equipment, not to mention the dedicated tender which is housed on the aft deck. The crew is of course well trained to help you enjoy them, whether you are a novice or a pro. From her strikingly modern exterior to the warm and calming interior, Only Now has everything covered, whether you’re in the mood for play or relaxation.

Once you have had enough of the sun and the water, her contemporary interior is warm and relaxing, with wooden floors and oak paneling in the main salon, adding a vintage touch reminiscent of the 1950s. This is contrasted by modern accents such as the sublime photography and abstract art adorning the walls. There are soothing touches of colour and freestanding furniture by Knoll and Carl Hansen which add a touch of luxury to complement her industrial design.

Only Now can play host to eight guests in four spacious cabins, including an impressive full beam master suite which is centrally located and offers his and her bathrooms, a walk-in wardrobe, and a surprisingly large office space. For a yacht of this size, guests are continually blown away by the luxury of the master cabin – a true salute to the Tansu design team. A VIP suite, a double, and a twin room complete the accommodation, all decorated in the same warm, modern tones, with oak floors and high gloss paneling.

Captain Matt Sowter started his yachting career just nine years ago, working as deckhand and bosun on
some of the world’s most prestigious superyachts. His determination and ambition to make the grade as a captain paid off and he is experienced at leading both private and charter yachts.

With an exceptional eye for detail, a cheerful demeanour and a can-do attitude, Captain Matt is proud to helm Only Now and deliver the finest superyachting experience possible to guests.

He is especially proud of her modern look as well as the practicality and comfort of the interior. This is something that is essential to the Tansu name – creating yachts with groundbreaking style and engineering, while upping the game in terms of luxury and usability. In short – the best of both worlds. The owner of Only Now often spends months at a time on board with his family and friends, proof that she is a yacht that was built, above all, as a home from home to be used and enjoyed.

Captain Sowter is equally proud of his team of four professional crew, describing them as kind and welcoming, always attentive to the needs of guests while observing the utmost discretion. With a small crew, it is important to demand the very best, for all members must work seamlessly together and be proficient in all areas. This is certainly the case on board Only Now. The crew seem to be everywhere at once, lending a hand to other departments, always anticipating the next movement and desire of their guests.

This theme of modern simplicity finds its way into the galley as well. The culinary experience on board Only Now is courtesy of Chef Serdar Dede who began his culinary career back in 2001. His path towards the sea started in top restaurants and hotels and from there he moved on to VIP charters. Since then he has not left the sea, joining his first yacht in 2005.

Serdar strongly believes in the emotional importance of fine cuisine and the memories that meals can create. He loves the challenges of being a chef at sea, the discerning tastes of guests, and the search for the finest ingredients in often remote areas. Perhaps this is his most powerful source of inspiration.

If Tansu only produces a few yachts at a time, this is entirely intentional. Unlike many other boat builders of this day, the Tansu production is obsessively devoted to quality and originality. When one steps on board Only Now, this devotion is evident. There is not another vessel like her, and it is precisely for this reason that a charter aboard will be like none other. Industrial design, superb minimalistic styling, open spaces orchestrated to bring the guests closer to the sea…this is what Tansu is all about.
