Can't Remember

Here Captain George gives us the low down on a Can’t Remember charter experience, from your trusty crew right down to the plethora of water toys that are just waiting to be enjoyed.

Please tell us a little about your background and how you got into yachting?

I am a merchant marine master mariner captain (STCW) specialising in VIP protection and anti-terrorism tactics in full compliance with the Israeli Ministry of Defense. I also have a Masters in Marine Engineering Management from the University of Greenwich, am approved as an instructor of higher education programmes such as MSc Marine Engineering Management and BA Hons Business Studies (Shipping), and am also head of studies for the Super Yacht Academy programs by Warsash Maritime Academy at the Metropolitan College of Greece. On top of that I am a certified PADI dive master and licensed lifeguard.

Each one of these experiences came together and inspired me to become a yacht captain, as well as the experiences I had through the interaction with HNWI and celebrities.

How long have you been a captain and what are some of the yachts you’ve worked on?

I’ve been a captain for the last 19 years and have worked on board many different yachts including Sea Crown, Yarianna, Olympias, Sympatico, Aegean Schatz, Iraklis L and, of course, Can’t Remember, which I joined in November 2015.

How would you describe the style and personality of Can’t Remember? 

She is a yacht that our clients remember for the great service and the experience they have on board, more so than the charter price. She also has an extremely warm and tranquil ambiance.

What’s your personal style as captain? 

Working as yacht captain I have access to completely different lifestyles, and I have contact with all types of different cultures, customs and mentalities. Love them or hate them, I have to cope with them all, so I have learnt to be very tolerant and open minded.

What’s the best thing about working on this yacht?

My magnificent crew, of course! 

What are some of the standout features of the yacht?

Five out of six of our cabins are doubles, and we also have a comfortable dining table on the upper deck for 22 guests. There’s also the spectacular Veranda sun deck too where our guests gather. 

We’re a kosher-friendly environment and all crew have a Silver Star Certificate from PYA and IAMI.

Which types of client are most attracted to a charter on board Can’t Remember and what experiences can you offer them?

We mostly attract families and divers, and I am highly experienced in diving tourism. I work as both captain and dive guide/instructor which allows me to share interactions with dolphins and rare fish with passengers from all over the world. The wonder and excitement diving can bring to people on a yacht always surprises me, and it’s so rewarding to see my passengers having those experiences for the first time and how meaningful it can be for them. 

Please share some examples where you and your crew have gone above and beyond to make the guest experience as special as possible… 

Working on board, you have to be at the beck and call of guests who have some quite particular requests, some that are almost impossible to fulfil.

There are of course the simple things too though, such as making sure you have the language of choice newspapers, particular imported coffee and preferred wine on hand at all times. We had a particular guest who required full body make up every day before she left her cabin, and our assistant stewardess provided this every day until the end of the charter. Whatever the guests require, it is our job is to make sure they get it.

Are there any interesting personalities or talents among the crew?

I call my crew ‘The Magnificent Five’! They all have very unique personalities and great academic backgrounds, and we are the only yacht in the world where all the crew members, from the captain to the chief and assistance stewardess, chef and engineer have a Silver Star Certificate by PYA & IAMI. 

How are the yacht and the crew prepared to accommodate children and teenagers on a charter?

We are a yacht with a reputation for enthusiastic, engaging, well-trained crew who can transform every day into a full-fueled adventure. Be that entertaining the children and teenagers on charter with the famous Captain George’s Treasure hunt, arts and crafts or even teaching them how to dive on the reefs or to be a useful deckhand, there’s always something going on. 

How would you describe the cuisine on board?

One of a kind!

Tell us about the toys and tenders –which toys are the most popular with guests? 

We are a yacht full of toys, but undeniably the most popular are the flyboard, the jet pack and the jet surf.

What are your usual cruising grounds?

You’ll normally find us around the Cyclades and the Ionian Islands. 

Which destinations and your personal favourites and why?

Greece offers so many itineraries for all tastes and there is an island for everyone, but the Cyclades is my favourite area because you can find  everything from unpopulated paradises with secret bays and caves for diving to cosmopolitan islands with first-class restaurants. 

The archipelago’s popularity is such that there is little that is undiscovered about this corner of Greece but, with each island boasting its own history, culture and traditions, you could cruise here for a lifetime and still experience something new every time you returned. 

What have been some of the highlights or your favourite memories as captain of Can’t Remember? 

Three years ago I had an F1 champion as a guest on board. We decided to have a race with two buggy cars from the old port of Mykonos to Psarou bay and guess what? I WON.
